February at SSOCs: Paris Birthday Sparkle, Spy Soundtracks, and a Few Deep-Cut Detectives

February always has a slightly different energy, doesn’t it? January is all fresh diaries and good intentions… but February is where things actually start moving. The music begins to settle, the ensemble sound starts to blend, and you suddenly catch yourself thinking: oh—this is going to work.
And this month at Stand Sure Orchestra & Choirs, it really has.
A quick personal milestone (with a croissant-shaped smile)
I had a rather big birthday this month — and celebrated it in Paris. There’s something about getting away, walking for miles, people-watching, and hearing a different language all around you that does wonders for resetting the brain. I came home feeling refreshed… and very ready to jump straight back into rehearsals (after a brief reunion with British rain!).

Undercover Melodies is taking shape… and it’s deliciously suspicious 👀
Our spring concert “Undercover Melodies” is really starting to sound like a proper show now — not just separate pieces, but a full musical journey through spies, detectives, and cinematic drama.
You’ll definitely hear some big, instantly recognisable themes… but we’ve also deliberately included a few choices that might make you think:
“Hang on… what’s this from?”
And that’s exactly the point.
Not everything is “famous”… but it’s all film-worthy
When people think spy music, they often picture the obvious classics — the big franchise moments, the famous riffs, the “I know this in my bones” themes.
But the world of spy and detective stories is huge — and some of the best music lives slightly off the main road.
So alongside the headline themes, we’ve included a handful of pieces that were featured in spy or detective films (sometimes in surprisingly memorable scenes), even if the music itself isn’t widely known as a “spy theme.”
What you can expect from those “obscure” choices:
brilliantly stylish grooves and atmospheres
music that builds tension in all the right ways
the kind of soundtrack writing that makes you feel like you’re doing something important… even if you’re just putting the bins out
In other words: even if you don’t recognise every title, you’ll still feel what it’s doing. And you might leave with a few new favourites.
The best bit: the people
As ever, the heartbeat of SSOCs is the community. February is a brilliant month for noticing the small wins:
people growing in confidence week by week
members supporting each other without fuss
that moment when a passage goes from “survival mode” to “ooh… we sound good!”
Thank you to everyone who turns up and brings their best — not perfection, just effort and good spirit. That’s how this works. That’s how we build something together.
And yes… we’re still proudly living by our SSOCs motto:
don’t stop believing
Fancy joining us?
If you’ve been thinking “I’d love to do something like this” — take that as your sign. SSOCs is about making music with others, improving as you go, and being part of a friendly team.

Onwards into spring…
February has been a lovely blend of momentum and meaning — a personal milestone for me, and a musical milestone for the group as we continue building towards our next big performance.
More soon.
don’t stop believing
